7 Age-Defying Makeup Tips for Mature Skin

One of the popular sayings in the makeup industry is that “makeup is a one size fits all‘. This essentially means that makeup is for everyone and you can roll with it however you want because, at the end of the day, you can take it all off.

This perception sounds encouraging, but makeup is subjective. To look your best in makeup, consider your personal needs instead of paying too much attention to trends. This is particularly important if you have mature skin with fine lines, wrinkles, smile lines, and other imperfections. Here are 7 Age-Defying Makeup Tips for Mature Skin.

When it comes to applying makeup on mature skin, the goal is to achieve a youthful appearance instead of enhancing the traits that show age. Again, this has everything to do with understanding the proper use of makeup on mature skin instead of what looks good on young people.

To provide you with a better idea of how to defy aging with makeup, here are seven tips from a Dubai-based editorial makeup artist.

1. Use a moisturizing primer.

A moisturizing primer is more beneficial to mature skin. Primer is crucial in ensuring that the foundation and all other makeup products glide on more smoothly for a seamless finish. Additionally, it can plump up the skin and make fine lines and wrinkles less defined.

When choosing a moisturizing primer, it’s best to opt for a water-based formula. It is just as hydrating but does not feel slick on the skin.

2. Opt for a lightweight, medium-coverage foundation with a radiant finish.

One of the most common misconceptions about base makeup for mature skin is the foundation should be full-coverage and matte to draw attention away from the different markers of aging. The reality is matte and full-coverage foundation will only enhance those signs.

Using a lighter and thinner foundation that brings luminosity to the skin may not fully conceal mature skin woes, but it will look fresher. Also, the radiant finish reflects light and can blur enlarged pores and lines on the face

3. Take your time with the foundation application.

  • Whether you are a brush, finger, or sponge user, the key to flawless foundation application is to blend evenly. This takes time. So pat, dab, and swirl starting from the center of your face and going outwards. This trick will sheer out and distribute the product evenly. That’s not the end, though.
  • Just let the product sit on your face for a bit to see if it will oxidize as it dries. Once it dries, you can make adjustments to the color as you apply a thin second layer, and also focus on those areas that need a bit more coverage (no need for concealer anymore). You will achieve a flawless base that the rest of your makeup will adhere to throughout the day.

4. No baking.

For mature skin, baking often leads to cracking. A thick application of setting powder, no matter how micronized the powder is, will crack when you smile, crinkle your eyes, or make any type of facial expression. Not only will this enhance your wrinkles and textured skin but it may also add a few more lines that you do not naturally have.

To set your foundation, use a blurring powder and sweep it lightly on your skin with a lightweight and fluffy brush.

5. Define the natural shape of your brows.

  • Just tidy your brows up by plucking strays and leave the natural shape alone. You want your brows to look healthy and like they belong to your face. So, just define their natural shape.
  • With a brow brush, sweep your eyebrows upwards for that feathery look.
  • If there are a few extra long brow strands, just trim them with eyebrow scissors.
  • Afterward, use a brow powder to define the shape of your brows. Brow powder is easier to work with, and it looks more natural. Lastly, brush brow gel on your brow hairs to keep your brows on point throughout the day.

6. Polish your eyeliner game.

There’s nothing more aging than an eyeliner that’s not applied correctly. You know, when there’s a bit of skin peeping through between the eyeliner and the actual eyeline.

So, learn how to tight line. Practice makes perfect or sign up for a pro makeup course to master the art of eyeliner application. Or, use eyeshadow to line your eyes instead of a pencil or liquid liner. Eyeshadow is more forgiving; you can erase it quickly, but it works in creating a defined eye line that does not look harsh, and it comes in different colors, too.

7. Use balmy lipstick.

  • Leave the matte liquid lipsticks to the young ones, and opt for moisture-rich lipsticks to color your puckers. They provide the lips with a fuller look and can even smoothen outlines.
  • You can also use lip glosses more. They’re an additional moisture boost to the lips, and they keep lip color looking fresh for much longer.

There you go, seven makeup tips that will keep you looking lovely and fresh at any age. None of these tips is difficult to master, but every one of them will create a huge impact on how your skin looks with makeup on.
